What to Expect at a Pet Wellness Exam

A regular exam with a pet doctor might begin with weighing your pet, taking his temperature, checking his pulse, and listening to his heart and lungs. An animal doctor on our veterinary team might then ask you questions about your pets diet, behavior, or level of exercise and ask you if you have any concerns.

A veterinarian on our veterinary team will then move onto the rest of the exam. This might include a dental exam to check for broken teeth, gum disease, and other oral issues. The vet might then check the eyes and ears, check for signs of infection, mites, and other problems.

How to Prepare Your Pet for His Exam

A vet on our veterinary team may request a stool sample, so may need to collect one the night before or the morning of the exam. It may also be a good idea to bring in some information of the type of pet food your pet is eating, any medications he is on, and any documents concerning his medical history. Further preparations may depend on any specific problems we believe he may have.
